The Indian Telugu film Shaakuntalam (2023) is a cinematic adaption of the playwright Kalidasa’s Abhijnanashakuntalam which is a 7-act play written around the 4th century BCE. The story itself is derived from the Mahabharata, one of the Indian epics. Many Indians consider the Mahabharata as a part of Indian history and not merely as a mythological epic. The film released on the 14th of April, 2023 in all major Indian languages like Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada including its principle language Telugu.

Director Biography - Gunasekhar Karri

Gunasekhar is a Indian Film Director and Screenwriter. Born on the 2nd of June,1964 in the coastal village of Narsipatnam in the Vizag district of Andhra Pradesh in India, he pursued his Bachelors in Commerce at Vishakhapatnam.

Gunasekhar’s latest work is lauded as ‘India’s First Historical Stereoscopic 3D Film’, it is the historical biopic of the 13th century Kakatiya Queen Rudhramadevi.

Gunasekhar remains the only director in the recent era of telugu cinema to have directed diverse genres like mythology and historical social films.
