5Q's w/Geoffrey Cowper "Day Release" Director
#1: Can you describe your movie and why somebody should see it in less than 140 characters?
It’s a film for anybody who likes action and romance and real events in which characters have to overcome the difficulties life throws at them.
#2: What do you want the Borrego Film Festival audience to know about your film that isn’t obvious from its title?
That it’s a low-budget first-feature film about the redemption of an antihero and that it has some pretty cool and bloody special make-up effects!
#3: What is your movie making background? Tell us about yourself.
My biggest passion in life is watching and making movies. That’s why I decided to study film at ESCAC (near Barcelona) thanks to my parents. My final-year project was Snails!, a short film with a giant killer snail and a lot of heart.
#4: What was the biggest lesson learned in getting your film made?
That making a film takes everything you’ve got in you and in your wallet. But it’s totally worth it, and luckily, all the mistakes I made taught me so much about movie making. And as they say, the more you know, the more you know nothing!
#5: What does the future hold for your film and you?
I think the Borrego Film Festival might be the last to screen our film. But it’s very special for Jesus (the lead actor) and myself, since we came to Borrego Springs for the first time earlier this year after attending film festivals in Santa Barbara and San Diego. We loved Borrego Springs; the scenery, the people —and we ate the best tacos ever! You’re very lucky people! I don’t know what the future holds for me, but I hope I can make my second movie someday, and maybe a third in the USA so I can come back to Borrego!
