The Pomegranate

A mother hands a small pomegranate tree to her seven-year-old son and says, when it ears fruits, I'll be back home. She is in prison now accused of murdering her husband. The boy carries the pot everywhere, causing inconvenience for his paternal grandmother, now his custodian.
Director Biography - Mehrdad Jalali
Mehrdad Jalali was born in 1986, city of Esfahan, Iran. He holds an MA in English literature. He started script writing in 2014 at Iranian Youth Cinema Society. Then he took courses in filmmaking there in 2015 and made student short films. In 2016, he made his first professional short film, The Apple Orchard. In 2018, he was accepted to Asghar Farhadi's master class in Tehran and made the short film "The Circle" in the same year. "The Pomegranate" (2024) is his last short film.
