5Q's w/Piotr Matyja "Nobody is Looking" Director

QUESTION#1: How do your top 3 favorite films influence your filmmaking?:

Both of my two favourite films – "Blind Chance" and "Santa Sangre" were the biggest experiments in the work of those directors. That's why each time I make a film I'm trying something new.

QUESTION#2: What do you wish someone would ask you about your film and why?:

"Have I seen those actors somewhere?" is my favourite question regarding this film. Thanks to the incredible Konrad Miklaszewski and Mateusz Pietrzak we were able to cast Hubert Miłkowski in the lead role, who did many feature films and TV shows, and Dariusz Kowalski, who is the legend of early 2000's Polish TV. We shot "Nobody is Looking" on film, so we had to shoot it usually in two takes, but thanks to those amazing actors we didn't need more.

QUESTION#3: What scared you the most about making this film?:

Shooting on film! It's always stressful, especially considering I'm a huge overshooter – usually I shoot around 30-45 minutes of footage for 1 minute of final film, and here we had around 30 minutes of film stock we could use – for an 8 minute movie!

QUESTION#4: You have to choose one to make your next movie: 1) unlimited budget but only a single take of every shot 2) Academy award winning composer, but they're not allowed to watch the film 3) A-list cast, but they're directed using only charades. Which one do you pick and why?:

I love this question! I'm torn between #2 and #3 – #1 is definitely out of question, unless the number of set ups is unlimited. I believe though that sometimes you find the perfect frame and there is no better way to shoot it like that until it's perfect.

QUESTION#5: What's does the future hold for this film and you?:

We will see, we will definitely try to show the movie to more people on different festivals – thank you so much for including us!
