5Q's w/: Todd Eric Valcourt "Symptoms" Director, Producer
QUESTION#1: What about your film excites you the most?: I love that we have been opening people's eyes about a subject that rarely gets talked about.. And if it is, it's usually just passed over with no details. It's been amazing how many women have actually thanks us for making this film.
QUESTION#2: What is it about your current movie that will influence your next film?: I believe just to push equal rights and continued education, especially now in a time where that seems to be under attack and being taken away in every way.
QUESTION#3: When you’re shooting a film, do you think of time as something you capture or something you construct?: I don't think we capture time, per se...I think we catch a glimpse...many moments that we string together into a story that hopefully touches someone. Means something to someone. If you do that right, time doesn't become a factor.
QUESTION#4: What’s a limitation you wish you had on your next shoot that would force you into making interesting creative decisions?: Hahaha. What indie film doesn't already face every limitation and obstacle that forces you to find the creative solution? I've been in the film and television industry since I was a small child. When I started making my own films I had to find every way to make something, borrow something, sneak in somewhere, beg for a favor...you name it. Indie film should be called Limited film that forces you to be creative. I hope every film I do has less and less limitations.. I would love to see just how creative I could be without them.
QUESTION#5: If a film shoot is like a living organism, which department do you think functions as its nervous system?: Oh, that's producer, line producer, AD.. The ones that control the chaos. Make sure the actors are there, paperwork is done, food is delivered, scripts are finalized, location is set. All the non-glamourous jobs so the creative part can flow easily. Without them the system shuts down.
