5Q's w/: Rob Christopher "My Last Martini" Director, Writer
QUESTION 1: What about your film excites you the most?
At its core my film is about a handful of people simply talking and relating to one another as human beings. Stepping into each other's lives at a particular moment in time. Beyond that, this film gave me the chance to create my perfect bar onscreen: very dark, no windows or TVs or loud music, just expertly prepared cocktails in a calm, soothing, invigorating atmosphere. The ideal space and mood for one's imagination to take over.
QUESTION 2: What is it about your current movie that will influence your next film?
Creating this film with a small, dedicated cast and crew who like working together and have fun in the process: that respect and camaraderie will serve my next film well, whatever it happens to be.
QUESTION 3: When you’re shooting a film do you think of time as something you capture or something you construct?
If you're lucky, during the shoot, provided all the ingredients are present and in balance, you're capturing something beyond what you can consciously control. But during the edit, you're in the business of constructing time.
QUESTION 4: What’s a limitation you wish you had on your next shoot that would force you into making interesting creative decisions?
I'd much rather find a way to use existing locations over a studio and to use practical effects over CGI.
QUESTION 5: If a film shoot is like a living organism which department do you think functions as its nervous system?
Undoubtedly it's the combo of assistant director and the head of craft services. They keep the train on time and well fed.
