5Q's w/: Katy Dore "Aloha Means I Love You" Director Writer, Producer
QUESTION 1: What about your film excites you the most?
Showcasing that dreams and desires are alive and important at every age. I loved working with these two actors. Both have become dear friends who willingly share their talent, experiences and wisdom with me.
QUESTION 2: What is it about your current movie that will influence your next film?
Time, time, time! We shot "Aloha" in 8 hours and it just wasn't enough time to really ease into the scenes the way I would have like to. The next one will have some buffer time built in.
QUESTION 3: When you’re shooting a film do you think of time as something you capture or something you construct?
Both. I try to construct a world and capture honest moments within it.
QUESTION 4: What’s a limitation you wish you had on your next shoot that would force you into making interesting creative decisions?
I'm imposing that limitation right now! I'm shooting my next film on an iPhone--not out of creative inspiration but because of budget. However, what it's forcing me to do is to very carefully design each shot and try to come up with interesting ways to use the camera that wouldn't be possible with other equipment. Fingers crossed!
QUESTION 5: If a film shoot is like a living organism which department do you think functions as its nervous system?
The directing department but all props go to a brilliant First AD. If that person is organized, kind, communicative and firm, the organism can dance!
