5Q's w/: Cynthia Gravinese "Watching Walter" Producer
QUESTION 1: What about your film excites you the most?
Knowing that Holocaust survivor, Walter Wojnas ended up in our little town of Roxborough/Manayunk in Philadelphia and had this unbelievable story that no one knew about until my husband learned of his story and was given permission to tell it. We knew at that moment we had to drop everything, and make it happen to honor his wishes. Not only was it an exciting opportunity to work on a period piece, but to tell such an important story was our mission.
QUESTION 2: What is it about your current movie that will influence your next film?
The ultimate goal would be to tell Walter's entire story as a feature film or series. The world should know about him.
QUESTION 3: When you’re shooting a film do you think of time as something you capture or something you construct?
A time captured. It's part of the construction period, but in the end, the crew, actors, both post and pre production are working as a whole to capture a specific time and place.
QUESTION 4: What’s a limitation you wish you had on your next shoot that would force you into making interesting creative decisions?
Too much time can be your enemy, rethinking and reworking ideas, scripts, casting, trusting your gut instincts is always the best advice one should take to heart.
QUESTION 5: If a film shoot is like a living organism which department do you think functions as its nervous system?
The Producer or the producing team. As a producer, I am dealing with each department and keeping everyone on track, informed and content. It's a lot to juggle, but my mom skills paid off.
